Cashew Nut Production — – Cashew Nut Production refers to the total quantity of cashew nuts harvested and produced within a country during a specified period, measured in tonnes. The indicator reflects the scale of cashew cultivation and agricultural output and is used to assess crop productivity, farming capacity, and the contribution of cashew production to the agricultural sector. The data presented by Our World in Data is based on statistics from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
Based on the validated data, Kenya experienced a continuous decline in cashew nut production throughout the study period, reflecting changing cultivation conditions and reduced output capacity. Production declined from 28.41 thousand tonnes in 2015 to 24.95 thousand tonnes in 2016 and further decreased to 19.07 thousand tonnes in 2017. Output continued falling to 13.85 thousand tonnes in 2018 and reached 12.80 thousand tonnes in 2019. Production remained relatively stable but lower at 12.67 thousand tonnes in 2020, before declining further to 9.12 thousand tonnes in 2021 and 8.33 thousand tonnes in 2022. Output showed a slight recovery to 9.00 thousand tonnes in 2023 but declined again to 7.80 thousand tonnes in 2024, representing the lowest production level during the study period. Overall, the dataset highlights the challenges faced by Kenya’s cashew production sector, including declining productivity and the need for improved agricultural practices. The dataset provides valuable insights into production trends, farming performance, and industry development. It supports year-over-year analysis, benchmarking with regional producers, and forecasting future production potential. Farmers, policymakers, exporters, investors, researchers, and agricultural organizations can use the dataset to evaluate production challenges, identify improvement opportunities, enhance cultivation efficiency, strengthen supply chains, promote investment, and develop strategies for sustainable growth across Kenya’s cashew nut value chain.
