Adani Group Commits $100 Billion to Green AI-Ready Data Centers

Adani Group has outlined an ambitious plan to invest $100 billion by 2035 in a network of renewable-energy-powered data centers designed to support artificial intelligence workloads, marking one of the nation’s most substantial private commitments to digital infrastructure. The initiative aims to establish a sovereign energy and compute backbone that reinforces India’s position in the rapidly growing global AI landscape. 

A Unified Energy and Compute Framework

Unlike conventional data center expansions, the project is structured as an integrated ecosystem that synchronizes power generation, grid resilience, and high-density computing capacity within a coherent architecture. Core to this strategy is scaling the existing AdaniConnex platform from 2 gigawatts (GW) to an ambitious 5 GW across multiple campuses throughout India. 

The platform will serve a range of hyperscale workloads and is designed to support advanced liquid cooling systems and efficient power delivery, with dedicated capacity for large language models and national data initiatives prioritizing data sovereignty. 

Renewable Power and Strategic Partnerships

Adani’s renewable energy portfolio, anchored by the 30 GW Khavda project — more than 10 GW of which is already operational — will supply carbon-neutral power to the data centers. To further bolster clean energy, the company has earmarked an additional $55 billion for renewable generation expansion and large-scale battery energy storage systems. 

Strategic collaborations with global technology firms are also integral to the plan. Partnerships are underway to develop gigawatt-scale AI data center campuses with leading cloud and technology providers, extending the reach and capabilities of India’s digital infrastructure. 

Economic Ripple Effects and Digital Sovereignty

Adani Group estimates the initial investment could catalyze an additional $150 billion in related investments across servers, cloud platforms, and advanced electrical systems, potentially creating a $250 billion AI infrastructure ecosystem over the next decade. This expanded infrastructure is expected to bolster local compute resources and support startups, research institutions, and technological innovation across the region.
