MG Motor has officially taken the wraps off its all-new MG4 electric vehicle, showcasing a redesigned look, smart interior, and cutting-edge battery tech ahead of its China debut.
MG Motor has officially revealed the all-new MG4 electric SUV in full, ahead of its pre-sale starting on August 5 and a planned launch in China in early September. Display models have already been seen at dealerships and exhibitions throughout the country, providing a more detailed look at what the next-generation MG4 has to offer.
First introduced earlier this year, the all-new MG4 features a more rounded and refined design, marking a departure from the sharp, angular styling of its predecessor. The front bumper now sports a cleaner, more streamlined appearance, while the rear is highlighted by a full-width lightbar and MG’s signature arrow-shaped taillights on either side. Sitting on 17-inch alloy wheels, the new MG4 has increased in size, resulting in a more spacious interior.
Debut Interior Reveal: This marks the first official showcase of the MG4’s interior by MG.
Modern, Clean Design: The cabin features a sleeker and more contemporary layout compared to the previous model.
Co-Developed Infotainment System: The new intelligent infotainment setup has been co-developed with smartphone maker Oppo, as reported by CarNewsChina.
Larger Display Upgrade: Replacing the older, dashboard-integrated screen, the MG4 now boasts a 15.6-inch floating central infotainment display.
High-Performance Chipset: The display is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, ensuring smoother performance and advanced connectivity features.
Color Options: Offered in two dual-tone interior themes – Rose Purple and Mountain Blue.
Design Philosophy: Based on the “Swan Wing” concept, featuring low-saturation colors, minimalist design, and soft-touch materials.
Front Seats: Heated and ventilated with extended cushions for improved long-distance comfort.
Rear Seats: Longer seat cushions, recline up to 27°, and fold 60:40 for versatile cargo use.
Spacious Cabin: Fully flat floor and increased legroom compared to the previous model.
Premium Features (Higher Trims): Panoramic sunroof with built-in sunshade.
The system offers AI-powered interaction and comes equipped with a range of advanced features, including cross-platform connectivity, smartphone-based vehicle controls, gesture-based navigation, and support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries that rely on liquid electrolytes, solid-state batteries use solid electrolytes, providing benefits such as higher energy density, longer lifespan, and enhanced safety. Semi-solid-state batteries, as the name implies, combine elements of both types. In the MG4, the battery contains only 5% liquid electrolyte—comfortably below the 10% threshold typically used to classify batteries in this category.
In its latest configuration, the new MG4 offers an impressive range of 537 km (CLTC) and supports fast charging from 30% to 80% in about 20 minutes. By comparison, the previous model came with 51 kWh, 64 kWh, and 77 kWh battery options, delivering between 350 km to 520 km (WLTP).
While mass production is already in progress, MG Motor has yet to announce the official pricing for the new MG4 in China. For context, the current MG4 sold in Malaysia—imported from China—starts at RM103,999 for the base variant.
With a stylish design, enhanced comfort, and strong electric vehicle performance, the all-new MG4 is set to redefine expectations as it gears up for its official launch in China.
