Designed to carry a pilot and four passengers, the aircraft is projected to fly distances of up to 60 miles, offering an alternative to time-consuming ground commutes between major Central Florida cities.

A Purpose-Built Aircraft for Urban Connectivity

The Eve-100 features a “lift and cruise” configuration that blends helicopter-style vertical lift with fixed-wing efficiency. Eight wing-mounted propellers enable vertical takeoff and landing, while a rear-mounted pusher propeller supports forward flight, allowing cruising speeds of up to 126 mph. Measuring approximately 49 feet from wingtip to wingtip, the aircraft is engineered specifically for short urban hops rather than long-haul routes.

According to Eve’s Chief Commercial Officer Megha Bhatia, the aircraft’s primary mission is to support short-distance travel within dense urban regions. With U.S. headquarters located at Melbourne Orlando International Airport alongside Embraer’s North American operations, Eve has established a strong operational presence in Florida.

Strong Demand and Expanding Market Interest

Global demand for eVTOL aircraft continues to build. Eve reports a backlog of more than 2,800 preorders from 28 customers across nine countries, underscoring widespread interest in electric air taxi solutions. The Eve-100 mockup has been showcased to potential customers, government stakeholders, and industry partners, with upcoming appearances planned at major aviation industry events.

Florida has emerged as a strategic focal point for these developments. State-level initiatives, supported by the Florida Department of Transportation, are advancing an “aerial highway network” designed to connect vertiports across key corridors, including Tampa, Orlando, Daytona Beach, and Melbourne. Test site development is already underway at the SunTrax facility in Auburndale.

Path to Certification and Commercial Service

Eve became an independent company in 2020 and has steadily progressed through development milestones. The first uncrewed hover flight of a full-scale prototype took place in December at Embraer’s test facility in São Paulo, Brazil. The company plans to build additional prototypes and conduct hundreds of test flights as it works toward certification with Brazil’s Civil Aviation Agency, while continuing discussions with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and European regulators.

The company aims to launch initial commercial services in Brazil by late 2027. Recent financing, including a five-year loan dedicated to advancing eVTOL certification efforts, has further strengthened Eve’s development roadmap. Embraer remains the majority owner, contributing decades of aerospace experience and engineering resources to the program.

Eve is also collaborating with Florida Institute of Technology on research initiatives covering pilot interfaces, airspace management, and passenger experience factors such as noise and vibration. These efforts align with broader industry challenges identified by Eve, including regulatory approval, air-traffic integration, vertiport infrastructure, and battery technology limitations tied to flight range.
