According to Kasey Reigner, spokesperson for Allegheny County Emergency Services, the incident claimed the life of one individual, while two others remain unaccounted for as rescue operations continue. Reigner further confirmed that numerous additional victims sustained injuries and were provided with immediate medical treatment following the blast.

Fire and Explosion Rock Community, Witness Describes Thunderous Impact

Allegheny County Emergency Services reported that the fire at the plant began around 10:51 a.m. The subsequent explosion rattled the community, prompting officials to urge residents to avoid the area so emergency crews could carry out their work.

“It felt like thunder,” said construction worker Zachary Buday, who was nearby at the time, in an interview with WTAE-TV. “It shook the scaffold, my chest, and the building. Then we saw the dark smoke rising from the steel mill, and we knew something serious had happened.”

Emergency Medical Response Efforts
