TSMC AI Chip Boom Drives Semiconductor Market Growth

TSMC Set for Sixth Straight Record Profit as AI Chip Demand Powers Q3 Earnings Surge

TAIPEI, Taiwan — October 12, 2026 — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is poised to report a sixth consecutive quarter of record earnings on Thursday, as surging demand for advanced artificial intelligence chips continues to propel the world's largest contract chipmaker to new financial heights, reinforcing the broader momentum across the Semiconductor Market.

Analysts polled by LSEG forecast TSMC's third-quarter net profit to surge 65% year-on-year to T$746.3 billion ($23.4 billion), based on a SmartEstimate compiled from 16 analysts that places greater weight on forecasts from consistently accurate contributors. Any result exceeding T$706.56 billion would mark the company's highest-ever quarterly net income and its 11th consecutive quarter of profit growth.

TSMC's third-quarter revenue, already disclosed on October 8, climbed 50% year-on-year to a new record, surpassing market forecasts. Demand for the company's AI chipmaking capacity including its advanced CoWoS chip packaging technology remains robust, according to analysts. TSMC supplies critical components to leading technology firms including Nvidia and Apple, making its results a closely watched barometer of AI infrastructure investment globally.

The chipmaker's market capitalisation stands at approximately $2.1 trillion, nearly double that of South Korean rival Samsung Electronics. TSMC's Taipei-listed shares have gained 63% year-to-date, reflecting sustained investor confidence in the company's AI-driven growth trajectory. The company is also investing $265 billion to build chip factories in the US state of Arizona, including an additional $100 billion tranche announced in July 2026.

Key Highlights:

  • TSMC's Q3 net profit is forecast to surge 65% year-on-year to T$746.3 billion ($23.4 billion), per an LSEG SmartEstimate drawn from 16 analysts

  • Third-quarter revenue rose 50% year-on-year to a record high, beating market forecasts, with demand for 3-nanometre chips and CoWoS packaging technology cited as primary drivers

  • TSMC is committing $265 billion to chip manufacturing facilities in Arizona, with an additional $100 billion investment unveiled in July 2026, and is evaluating a potential further expansion in Texas

  • Morgan Stanley analyst Charlie Chan expects TSMC to raise its full-year revenue growth guidance to the low-to-mid 40% range, up from its current guidance of more than 40%

Analyst Insight:

According to analysts at Next Move Strategy Consulting, TSMC's anticipated sixth consecutive record quarter underscores the structural, rather than cyclical, nature of AI-driven semiconductor demand. The sustained expansion of hyperscaler capital expenditure and the accelerating deployment of AI infrastructure globally are reinforcing TSMC's position as an indispensable node in the advanced chip supply chain.

NMSC analysts further note that the global semiconductor market valued at USD 639.10 billion in 2023 and projected to reach USD 1,209.35 billion by 2030 at a CAGR of 9.57% is being materially shaped by the proliferation of AI workloads requiring advanced logic and packaging solutions, precisely the segments where TSMC holds dominant market share.

Industry Outlook:

TSMC's full Q3 earnings call, scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 0600 GMT, is expected to deliver updated fourth-quarter and full-year guidance that will set the tone for the broader semiconductor sector. Analysts will closely monitor management commentary on capacity expansion, particularly regarding a potential investment in Texas, where TSMC is evaluating additional manufacturing sites to address growing customer demand and space constraints at its Arizona facilities.

With capital expenditure guidance set at $60 billion to $64 billion for 2026, TSMC's investment posture signals sustained confidence in the long-term trajectory of AI chip demand. The outcome of Thursday's earnings call is expected to serve as a key directional signal for AI-linked equities and semiconductor supply chain participants heading into the final quarter of 2026.
