The global Aquaculture Industry is entering a new phase of technological transformation after unveiled a major Innovation Theatre program focused on robotics, artificial intelligence, genetics, and sustainable seafood systems. At the same time, BENTU Design introduced a circular construction material developed from aquaculture pond sludge, highlighting how waste reutilization is becoming a strategic growth pillar for the sector.
According to the latest proprietary analysis from Next Move Strategy Consulting, the global aquaculture market, valued at USD 281.99 billion in 2019, is projected to reach USD 484.05 billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of 4.90% between 2020 and 2030. Analysts note that the latest wave of automation, sustainable feed systems, and circular economy innovation is accelerating capital inflows into aquaculture infrastructure worldwide.
The Innovation Theatre program at reflects the industry’s increasing focus on digital aquaculture systems as producers face pressure to improve productivity, fish welfare, and environmental compliance.
TidalX showcased its autonomous pen platform capable of monitoring sea lice, fish behavior, growth rates, and welfare metrics through integrated robotic systems. Meanwhile, BioMar explored how artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, and regenerative agriculture are reshaping next-generation aquafeed production.
Industry experts believe feed innovation is becoming a central competitive differentiator as producers attempt to lower environmental impact while maintaining protein efficiency.
“AI-assisted feed optimization and precision monitoring technologies are fundamentally changing operational economics across aquaculture facilities,” said Jayanta Das, Research Analyst at Next Move Strategy Consulting. “Over the last six months, investment momentum has shifted toward smart farming systems capable of improving yield predictability and reducing biological losses.”
The event also highlighted advances in offshore aquaculture systems by Sonardyne, which presented enhanced remote communication and monitoring solutions designed for large-scale marine farming operations.
Further discussions led by SAIC and the National Robotarium focused on integrating robotics, machine learning, and automation into commercial fish farming systems to improve scalability and labor efficiency.
On the second day of the conference, Benchmark Genetics presented its multi-species genotyping platform aimed at accelerating breeding programs across aquaculture species.
At the same event, Mowi detailed the operational deployment of environmental DNA (eDNA) systems across fish farms to provide regulators with auditable ecosystem monitoring data.
NMSC researchers identified a sharp increase in investment toward applied genomics, precision breeding, and biological monitoring systems during the first quarter of 2026.

Alongside digital transformation, aquaculture waste reutilization is emerging as a major sustainability trend.
BENTU Design developed unfired ceramsite panels using contaminated fish pond sludge sourced from the Pearl River Delta. The project, titled The Metamorphosis of Mud, applies alkali-activated geopolymer technology to convert aquaculture sediment into modular construction materials.
The process significantly lowers energy consumption by eliminating the need for kiln firing temperatures above 1000°C. According to project findings, the manufacturing method reduces carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 300 kilograms per ton of material produced.
The initiative reflects growing efforts within the aquaculture industry to integrate circular economy principles into infrastructure and waste management systems.
“Nutrient-heavy aquaculture waste is increasingly being repositioned as a commercial resource rather than a disposal challenge,” Das noted. “This transition aligns closely with global low-carbon construction trends and broader environmental remediation objectives.”
The resulting material can be used in wall systems, paving, partitions, and architectural interiors while preserving visual textures linked to regional ecological history.
Asia-Pacific remains the dominant region within the global aquaculture market due to strong seafood demand, government-backed aquaculture expansion, and rising investments in automated fish farming infrastructure.
