The vehicles will be deployed within airport and passenger transit settings in the UK, supporting the movement of small groups of passengers through automated transport systems. 

Under the agreement, Aurrigo will utilize Ultra Global’s existing intellectual property and combine it with its own expertise in autonomy software, robotics platforms, and autonomous vehicle engineering. The objective is to modernize the vehicle platform and enhance performance, safety, and technology standards for future deployments. 

Modernizing the Autonomous Vehicle Platform

The development program involves extensive upgrades across multiple components of the vehicle platform. Engineering teams will implement improvements to power systems, electronics, sensing technologies, and software architecture to support advanced autonomous functionality. 

The project will also include transitioning battery architecture from lead-acid systems to lithium-ion technology, along with HVAC system upgrades aimed at improving passenger comfort and operational efficiency. In addition, new sensor technologies and advanced electrical control units will be integrated to support future vehicle capabilities. 

Mechanical components will undergo retooling and modernization to ensure reliability and performance in real-world operating environments. Once completed, the upgraded platform will deliver a fleet of 25 purpose-built autonomous vehicles designed for airport mobility applications. 

Development Timeline and Deployment Outlook

Engineering development for the program is expected to conclude by the end of 2026, with production and testing activities scheduled afterward. The project is targeted for completion in September 2027. 

The initial batch of vehicles will be used for customer demonstrations and to support commercial engagement efforts both within the UK and internationally. These deployments are expected to help identify additional opportunities for expanding autonomous vehicle applications in passenger transit environments. 

Strengthening Technical Capabilities in Autonomous Systems

The program will draw upon Aurrigo’s technical capabilities in vehicle architecture, systems engineering, and advanced technology deployment. The collaboration is intended to deliver a platform that is robust, scalable, and prepared for future mobility demands. 

The initiative also supports engineering and manufacturing activity in the West Midlands region, an area known for its longstanding expertise in vehicle production and automotive innovation.
