Genesis GV90 Electric Flagship Unveiled With 490 kW Smart EV Tech

Genesis Unveils GV90 Electric Flagship With 490 kW Power and 123.5 kWh Battery

SAN FRANCISCO, United States — August 20, 2026 — Genesis has unveiled the production version of its GV90, a full-size electric SUV positioned at the top of the Korean luxury brand's growing EV lineup, marking a significant technological milestone for the smart EV market and signaling an intensifying push by Hyundai Motor Group into the premium intelligent vehicle segment.

The GV90, revealed in San Francisco and based on the Neolun concept first shown in 2024, is built on a new eMP electric vehicle platform developed exclusively for Genesis' flagship model — distinct from the E-GMP architecture underpinning the GV60, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6. The model will be offered in two configurations: the standard GV90 and the more extravagant GV90 Neolun, which features rear-hinged coach doors and no visible B-pillar.

The GV90 carries the largest battery ever fitted to a Hyundai Motor Group electric vehicle, with a 123.5 kWh capacity. Genesis estimates a driving range of approximately 500 km based on internal testing, with no official WLTP figure yet announced. When connected to a 350 kW DC fast charger, the vehicle can charge from 10 to 80 percent in 22 minutes.

Front and rear motors deliver a combined maximum output of 490 kW and 800 Nm — the most powerful electric drivetrain yet developed by Hyundai Motor Group. The GV90 is also the first vehicle from the group to deploy electronic limited-slip differentials on both axles, enabling more precise power distribution across all four wheels. Multi-chamber air suspension, electronically controlled dampers, and rear-wheel steering capable of turning up to five degrees further distinguish the model's dynamic engineering.

At 5,285 mm in length with a 3,245 mm wheelbase and available 24-inch wheels, the GV90 is the largest vehicle in the Genesis range. The long wheelbase enables a completely flat cabin floor and expanded second- and third-row space.

The range-topping GV90 Neolun introduces what Genesis calls the Neolun Arch Gate — front and rear doors that open in opposite directions with the fixed B-pillar removed. The front seats can rotate a full 180 degrees when parked, transforming the cabin into a lounge or meeting space. A four-seat Neolun Executive Suite variant adds individual rear seating, real wood flooring with radiant ondol-inspired heating, a refrigerator, fold-out tables, and an electrically controlled privacy roof.

Inside, the cabin features a 23.6-inch OLED display that physically rises 90 mm from the dashboard when parked, expanding to a 24.6-inch screen for entertainment. A 25-inch head-up display replaces the conventional instrument cluster, while a Crystal Sphere controller emerges from the centre console. Audio is handled by a 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen Dolby Atmos system. Buyers will have access to 16 exterior colours and multiple interior material combinations, including natural wood, stone, leather, and wool cashmere.

Pricing and market availability have not yet been confirmed by Genesis.

Analyst Insight:

According to analysts at Next Move Strategy Consulting, the Genesis GV90 unveiling reflects a broader structural shift in the smart EV market, where luxury and technology convergence is becoming a primary competitive differentiator. The global smart EV market was valued at USD 49.8 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach USD 212.6 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 17.5%, according to Next Move Strategy Consulting data.

NMSC analysts note that the ADAS and Autonomous Driving Systems segment — which currently holds approximately 42% of the smart EV market — is the primary battleground for flagship-tier differentiation, and Genesis' deployment of a proprietary eMP platform with advanced chassis intelligence positions the GV90 directly within this high-value segment. The Over-the-Air Software Platforms sub-segment is the fastest-growing technology category at a 24.5% CAGR through 2035, underscoring the importance of software-defined vehicle architecture for sustained competitive relevance in the premium smart EV space.

Industry Outlook:

The Genesis GV90 unveiling arrives as the global smart EV market undergoes rapid expansion, driven by accelerating ADAS commercialization, continuous OTA software delivery, and growing consumer demand for intelligent mobility platforms. Asia-Pacific currently leads the market with approximately 58% of global revenue, while North America — where the GV90 was unveiled — is the fastest-growing major region, propelled by robotaxi deployment and strong consumer willingness to pay for advanced autonomy features.

For Genesis, the GV90 represents a deliberate effort to establish the brand alongside traditional European luxury manufacturers by combining flagship-grade engineering with intelligent vehicle technology. As the smart EV market approaches a projected USD 162.8 billion absolute dollar opportunity between 2026 and 2035, automakers that successfully integrate advanced autonomy, smart cockpit systems, and high-frequency software delivery into premium platforms are expected to capture disproportionate market share in the years ahead.
