A recent Headspace–YouGov survey found that 74 percent of adults aged 18–45 who have sought or are considering therapy encounter obstacles to starting or continuing care, with cost cited by 47 percent as the primary barrier. Nearly half turn to informal supports, and one in ten rely on AI chatbots. Therapy by Headspace tackles these hurdles by combining licensed clinicians, in network insurance coverage, and AI-driven support in a single app experience.
Insurance Covered Sessions: Members typically pay between $0 and $35 per session through partnerships with over 45 national and regional plans, including Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Optum, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, with additional networks joining soon.
Personalized, Evidence-Based Care: One on one video sessions led by licensed therapists trained in modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy for conditions like anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, and more.
Integrated Support Ecosystem: New clients receive three months of complimentary access to Headspace’s meditation and mindfulness library, plus Ebb—an empathetic AI companion offering real-time emotional support, personalized conversational guidance, and tailored content recommendations.
Between therapy appointments, members can engage with Ebb to reinforce progress through guided meditations, breathing exercises, and continuous check-ins. Early outcomes demonstrate that 72 percent of Headspace therapy clients report reduced anxiety and 75 percent report reduced depression after just six weeks of combined therapy and app-based support.
“Our licensed clinicians help people through their darkest moments and help them rediscover the hope and resilience they thought they'd lost. This work takes deep clinical expertise and human compassion, which our therapists bring to every session,” said Jenna Glover, PhD, Headspace’s Chief Clinical Officer. “Through hundreds of thousands of sessions delivered over the years, we've learned that when people have continuous support reinforcing their therapy work—through guided meditations, personalized exercises, and an AI companion that understands their specific challenges, they maintain momentum between sessions and see lasting results faster.”
“Unlike other platforms that offer therapy in isolation, we’ve built an experience where your licensed therapist works hand-in-hand with empathetic AI support and a robust library of content that's available 24/7,” added Tom Pickett, CEO of Headspace. “Our goal is to be the companion people trust not only as a therapy provider, but also as a guide through every challenge and milestone in their mental health journey. The future of care isn't about choosing between human therapists and AI—it's about seamlessly blending both to deliver better outcomes.”
