TOKYO, Japan — June 19, 2026 — In a major development for the automotive and energy sectors, Honda and QuantumScape (QS) have announced a multi-year joint research agreement to co-develop and manufacture "game-changing" solid-state batteries. The strategic tie-up comes after Honda conducted an intensive, hands-on technical study benchmarking QuantumScape's platform against competing alternatives.
The partnership will leverage QuantumScape’s proprietary platform, which utilizes a lithium-metal anode and a specialized ceramic separator. According to technical data from testing, the platform offers profound performance benefits over conventional lithium-ion setups, promising to fundamentally rewrite expectations for vehicle range and charging infrastructure.

The collaboration aligns with a pivotal acceleration phase for solid-state commercialization. Earlier this year, QuantumScape brought its high-speed "Cobra" separator manufacturing process online via its Eagle Line facility, signaling a clear shift from pilot-phase testing to gigawatt-hour factory scalability.
