Swisslog is strengthening its presence in the food sector through a new strategic collaboration with Orto Verde, a prominent producer and distributor of frozen foods.
As part of the new agreement, Swisslog will design and construct a high-density automated warehouse aimed at optimizing logistics operations and enhancing efficiency and product traceability.
Located in Senigallia, the upcoming facility will include a state-of-the-art high bay clad-rack warehouse with a capacity of 19,700 pallet locations, supported by three Vectura S32 multi-depth stacker cranes.
A five-meter-high monorail system will connect Orto Verde’s existing production area with the newly developed shipping zone, which will also include dedicated goods receiving section for third parties and a shipping buffer area.
All warehouse operations will be seamlessly managed through Swisslog’s SynQ software, providing intelligent, fully integrated control across the entire logistics ecosystem.
This initiative extends the seven-year collaboration between Swisslog and Orto Verde, built on shared innovation, technical excellence, and continuous support.
Orto Verde chose Swisslog for its end-to-end technological expertise, competitive value, and commitment to guiding customers through every project phase.
Alessandro Brusatori, Head of Sales Italy at Swisslog, stated, “This facility represents a significant advancement in Orto Verde’s logistics operations, and we are proud to support the continued growth of Italian excellence in the food industry.”
Swisslog extends its sincere appreciation to Paolo Bernardi, Marius Foiciuc, and the entire project team for their dedication and professionalism throughout the initiative. The new facility is expected to be completed by 2027.
The strategic collaboration between Swisslog and Orto Verde marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the frozen food industry. By integrating advanced automation technologies into cold storage logistics, this initiative is set to positively reshape market operations, streamline distribution, and enhance product quality assurance.
The upcoming automated warehouse in Senigallia represents a step forward in how frozen food logistics are managed. The project introduces a new standard of efficiency and precision, which is likely to strengthen the sector’s supply chain resilience and operational agility.
Enhanced Supply Chain Resilience: Automation minimizes human error and delays, ensuring consistent temperature-controlled handling across all stages.
Optimized Inventory Management: The integration of Swisslog’s SynQ software enables real-time visibility, reducing stock losses and improving traceability.
Increased Throughput and Scalability: With a high bay clad-rack warehouse and Vectura S32 multi-depth stacker cranes, Orto Verde can handle larger volumes efficiently while meeting growing consumer demand.
Improved Energy and Space Utilization: Automated systems enable better storage density and energy efficiency, addressing sustainability priorities in cold logistics.
Boost to Local and Regional Food Supply Chains: The facility will support not only Orto Verde’s production but also third-party logistics needs, strengthening regional distribution networks in Italy and beyond.
The frozen food industry has been witnessing robust growth due to changing lifestyles, rising demand for convenience foods, and expanding retail networks. However, maintaining product quality and logistics efficiency remains a key challenge. The Swisslog–Orto Verde initiative directly addresses these gaps by merging automation with cold chain precision, setting a precedent for other producers and distributors.
This development signals a broader digital transformation in the European frozen food supply chain, fostering smarter storage, reduced wastage, and improved delivery timelines. It also demonstrates how technology-driven logistics can help manufacturers stay competitive amid increasing cost pressures and market volatility.
The success of this collaboration could encourage more food producers to adopt similar technologies, accelerating automation adoption in cold storage logistics.
Expansion of automated cold chain facilities across Europe.
Rising investments in AI-driven warehouse management systems.
Greater collaboration between logistics automation firms and food manufacturers.
Increased focus on sustainability and energy-efficient storage operations.
Overall, the partnership between Swisslog and Orto Verde will likely have a strong positive impact on the frozen food market. By aligning automation with innovation, it not only enhances operational performance but also strengthens Italy’s standing as a hub for advanced food logistics. As the project approaches completion in 2027, it is poised to redefine industry benchmarks for efficiency, scalability, and sustainability in frozen food distribution.
