Wellness Supplements Market Grows with Innovation and Demand

The global Wellness Supplements Market is entering a pivotal phase in 2025, driven by rising demand for health-enhancing products and transformative advancements in supplement formulations. From sleep support to enhanced performance, the industry is becoming more diversified and strategically integrated into consumer and industrial health ecosystems. According to McKinsey, wellness has become a higher priority for consumers than ever before. In the United States alone, the wellness market is estimated to exceed $500 billion in annual spending, with a steady growth rate of 4 to 5 percent each year. Despite economic fluctuations in the first half of 2025, McKinsey notes the sector’s strong resilience. In terms of consumer sentiment, 84 percent of Americans view wellness as a “top” or “important” priority. This sentiment is similarly high in the United Kingdom at 79 percent, and even more pronounced in China, where 94 percent of consumers place wellness at the forefront.

Latest Developments (2024–2025): Innovation, Safety, and Performance

Gen Z and millennials tend to be maximalist optimizers—tech-savvy consumers who try out a wide variety of health and wellness products and do a lot of research to figure out what actually works for them. This consumer segment makes up about 25 percent of all wellness consumers but accounts for over 40 percent of total market spending. They prefer science-backed solutions and often turn to doctors for guidance—yet they’re also more likely than other groups to be influenced by social media.

As science and technology keep pushing the boundaries of personalized nutrition, the demand for food supplements and functional foods is set to grow. Making sure these products are safe—using proactive, inclusive, and evidence-based methods—is key to protecting public health and supporting innovation.

FAO seeks to assist countries in developing effective regulations by promoting collaboration and knowledge-sharing. The goal is to make sure safety concerns don’t cancel out health benefits, while also making scientific knowledge more accessible to everyone.

Researchers say that combining omega-3 supplements with regular weight training can lead to major health benefits. A recent study published in Nutrients showed that athletes who took omega-3s during a strength-training program saw better cholesterol levels, improved brain-health markers, and noticeable strength gains compared to those who didn’t supplement.

The study found that omega-3s paired with resistance training led to real improvements—not just in blood markers, but also in key areas of physical performance like muscle strength, agility, reaction time, and explosive power.

Health Supplement Market Sees Strong Growth Amid Workforce Decline

According to a report released on July 13 by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI), the health supplement market experienced a 10.3% increase in 2023, with total sales rising to 22.51 trillion won (approximately $16.4 billion), up from 20.4 trillion won in 2022. This marked the highest growth rate among all biohealth subsectors.

In the rapidly growing health supplement market, products with basic nutritional functions led the way, generating 12.02 trillion won and making up 53.4% of total revenue. Functional foods aimed at physiological benefits followed with 6.29 trillion won (27.9%), while supplements focused on reducing disease risk contributed 4.21 trillion won (18.7%).

Despite strong sales, the industry saw a notable drop in employment. The number of workers fell by 18.9%, from 55,506 in 2022 to 45,031 in 2023 — the only biohealth subsector to see a decline in workforce.

Omega-3s boost cholesterol levels, brain health, and physical performance

Researchers in Turkey ran a randomized trial to see how omega-3 supplements affect people doing weight training. Two groups of men followed the same lifting routine, but only one group took the supplements.

Out of the 30 participants, 15 were randomly assigned to receive omega-3 supplements, while the other 15 served as the control group. The supplemented group took 3,150 mg of omega-3s daily—a dosage based on previous studies showing performance benefits at similar levels.
Both groups followed the same strength-training program three days a week: one upper-body workout, one lower-body session, and one full-body day. Researchers controlled gym conditions—like lighting, temperature, and equipment—to reduce performance fluctuations.
To avoid outside influences, both groups also followed a tightly controlled diet, overseen by a certified dietitian.

By the end of the trial, the group taking omega-3s saw clear health and performance improvements compared to the control group.

Key health benefits included:

  • Better cholesterol levels: lower LDL and triglycerides.

  • Reduced inflammation.

  • Higher antioxidant levels (including increased glutathione).

  • Boosts in neurochemicals like dopamine, serotonin, and BDNF.

In terms of performance, the supplemented group showed:

  • 13.6% increase in bench press one-rep max.

  • 9.7% increase in squat one-rep max.

  • Noticeable improvements in power, speed, agility, and reaction time.

How People Are Choosing and Trusting Health Information

A growing number of consumers are actively seeking out more protein in their diets, with 66% saying they’re trying to increase their intake — a trend that’s fueling demand for on-the-go products that balance taste and convenience. Technology is also playing a bigger role in personal wellness, with 35% already using AI for health-related tasks like meal planning, researching conditions, or exploring supplement routines. Another 27% say they’re considering using AI in similar ways. While social media platforms like TikTok are often seen as trend drivers, traditional sources of information remain influential: 15% of people cite TikTok for discovering health trends, but more rely on friends (30%), news media (29%), and advertising (21%). When it comes to trust, credentialed professionals still carry the most weight — 59% of respondents view doctors as “very trustworthy,” compared to just 11% who say the same about influencers.
