Tobacco Production โ Tobacco production refers to the total quantity of raw, unmanufactured tobacco leaves harvested from tobacco crops within a country or region during a specific year, generally measured in tonnes. It represents the agricultural output generated through the cultivation, growth, and harvesting of tobacco plants for commercial use. This macro indicator tracks changes in tobacco farming activities, production volumes, cultivation practices, harvested area, and yield performance over time, providing insights into the scale and trends of tobacco crop production across different regions.
Production declined slightly in 2017 to 68.38012 thousand tonnes, followed by a further decrease to 66.42394 thousand tonnes in 2018. In 2019, Thailand produced 66.04825 thousand tonnes, while production remained almost unchanged in 2020 at 66.02479 thousand tonnes. Output recovered slightly in 2021, reaching 66.43677 thousand tonnes, followed by 66.59032 thousand tonnes in 2022. Production remained stable in 2023 with 66.4378 thousand tonnes, while 2024 recorded 66.28529 thousand tonnes. The production trend highlights Thailandโs ability to maintain consistent tobacco output despite challenges affecting the global tobacco industry. Tobacco cultivation has traditionally supported rural communities in Thailand, particularly through small and medium-scale farming activities. The country produces tobacco varieties used for cigarette manufacturing and other processed tobacco products. However, the industry has faced increasing pressure from tobacco control regulations, changing consumer behavior, rising cultivation costs, and competition from international suppliers. Farmers have responded by improving cultivation techniques, enhancing leaf quality, and adopting more efficient production methods. Thailandโs tobacco sector operates within a controlled environment where production levels are influenced by government policies and market demand. Although production has not shown significant growth, the sector has maintained stability through effective farming practices and established supply networks. The 2015โ2024 production trend indicates that Thailand continues to play an important role in regional tobacco agriculture while gradually adapting to changing economic, regulatory, and consumer conditions.
