Beeswax Production — Beeswax production refers to the annual production output of beeswax, measured in tonnes or metric tons. The indicator presents country-level beeswax production statistics and time series, with values reported for each year in the selected period. It represents the quantity of beeswax harvested or produced from beekeeping activities within a country under the relevant apiculture and livestock product classification. Statistics are compiled from international agricultural databases and national agricultural reporting systems, including sources such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and official country data where available. The figures represent total beeswax production within the selected country and may include beeswax obtained from managed honeybee colonies and reported under the overall beeswax product category.
The indicator provides country-level production statistics and illustrates the performance of Uganda’s beekeeping sector over the selected period. From 2015 to 2024, Uganda’s beeswax production experienced fluctuations, with output declining from approximately 1,344 tonnes in 2015 to lower levels in later years before stabilizing around 600 tonnes by 2024. The reduction in production indicates changes in beekeeping conditions, colony availability, production efficiency, and possible variations in reporting practices. Despite fluctuations, Uganda remains an important beeswax-producing country due to its established beekeeping traditions and favorable ecological conditions. The country’s beeswax industry is supported by diverse vegetation, suitable climatic conditions, and widespread involvement of rural communities in honeybee farming. Beeswax is mainly obtained as a by-product of honey harvesting and hive management activities, providing additional income opportunities for beekeepers. The sector contributes to the supply of natural wax products used in candle production, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and other industrial applications. The indicator includes domestically produced beeswax from agricultural and commercial apiculture operations and represents annual production reported under the beeswax product category. It excludes honey output, other bee products, trade activities, consumption levels, market prices, and economic value assessments. Differences in production figures may occur due to variations in data collection methods, estimation techniques, colony assessments, environmental conditions, and seasonal impacts on bee activity. Overall, Uganda’s beeswax production reflects the country’s significant role in African apiculture while highlighting opportunities for improved productivity through modern beekeeping practices and sustainable hive management.
