HANOI, Vietnam — June 11, 2026 — In a major leap for global telecommunications, Viettel Networks has successfully integrated 11 frequency bands on its live 5G Standalone (5G SA) infrastructure. The breakthrough successfully clocks a record-breaking data transfer speed of 10 Gbps.

This technical milestone marks the first time a mobile operator in Southeast Asia has achieved a 10 Gbps threshold on a live commercial network. The development signals an aggressive shift away from traditional, single-lane data transmission toward multi-band, ultra-high-speed digital infrastructure.

Unlocking the Multi-Lane Spectrum Highway

Historically, 5G deployments have run on limited data lanes, restricting the simultaneous use of diverse radio frequencies. Viettel’s engineering team broke this bottleneck through the integration of New Radio Dual Connectivity (NR-DC) and Carrier Aggregation (CA) technologies.

By running data channels concurrently across multiple lanes, the carrier successfully fused 3 broadband channels in the C-band (3500MHz) with 8 high-speed channels in the millimeter-wave (26GHz) spectrum.

The 5G Advanced infrastructure was engineered in strategic coordination with global technology providers Ericsson and MediaTek. The architecture leverages Ericsson's multi-band 5G gNodeB base stations coupled with MediaTek’s M90 chipset platform.

The successful live deployment alters expectations for industrial automation, smart factories, and real-time data processing across the developing digital economy.

Viettel's aggressive network expansion positions it at the vanguard of regional connectivity. After scaling its grid to 30,000 5G stations by the end of 2025 to cover 90% of outdoor areas, the company's 2026 rollout strategy targets an additional 20,000 new 5G stations.

This continuous infrastructure ramp-up aims to push Viettel's total population coverage to 97%, cementing a high-speed telecommunications framework capable of sustaining next-generation digital twins, automated supply chains, and large-scale digital transformation across Vietnam.
