Alight Acquires 2GW Solar PV Pipeline in Sweden

Alight Acquires 2GW Swedish Solar PV and Storage Pipeline from Soltech Energy Solutions

STOCKHOLM, Sweden October 2, 2026, Nordic independent power producer (IPP) Alight has acquired a portfolio of 40 utility-scale solar projects in southern Sweden from developer Soltech Energy Solutions, adding approximately 2 gigawatts (GW) of planned solar capacity to its development pipeline a move that reinforces the accelerating investment momentum within the global Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Market, projected to reach USD 551.25 billion by 2030, according to Next Move Strategy Consulting.

The transaction, which received regulatory clearance from Sweden's Inspectorate of Strategic Products (ISP), positions Alight as one of the most significant utility-scale solar developers in the Nordic region, with its total solar PV and energy storage development pipeline now exceeding 5GW.

The 40 acquired projects are situated across Sweden's SE3 and SE4 electricity price areas, with most sites incorporating options for co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS). Alight will assume full responsibility for continued project development, including permitting and grid connection work, with the portfolio to be advanced toward ready-to-build status.

The projects are intended to be developed primarily under long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), consistent with Alight's established business model of developing, building, owning, and operating solar parks while supplying electricity to commercial and industrial customers at fixed, long-term prices. The acquisition follows Alight's recent commissioning of the 215MWp Lidsø Solar Park in Lolland, Denmark, and the 101MWp Eurajoki Solar Park in Finland both among the largest solar installations in the Nordic region.

Key Highlights:

  • Portfolio Scale: Alight acquired 40 utility-scale solar PV projects in southern Sweden from Soltech Energy Solutions, representing approximately 2GW of planned generation capacity.

  • Nordic Pipeline Milestone: The acquisition expands Alight's total solar PV and energy storage development pipeline in the Nordic region to more than 5GW.

  • Storage Integration: Most project sites include options for co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS), supporting grid stability and dispatchable clean energy delivery.

  • PPA-Driven Model: Projects will be developed primarily under long-term power purchase agreements, providing commercial and industrial offtakers with fixed-price, long-term renewable electricity supply.

Analyst Insight:

According to analysts at Next Move Strategy Consulting, large-scale portfolio acquisitions of this nature reflect a broader structural shift in European solar development, where established IPPs are increasingly consolidating early-stage pipelines to accelerate the path from permitting to construction. The Nordic region, with its strong regulatory frameworks and growing corporate PPA demand, is emerging as a key growth corridor for utility-scale solar PV deployment. NMSC analysts note that the integration of co-located battery storage within solar development pipelines is becoming a standard feature of bankable project structures, as grid operators and offtakers increasingly require dispatchable renewable capacity rather than intermittent generation alone.

Industry Outlook:

The Alight-Soltech transaction underscores the deepening maturity of the European solar PV market, where pipeline consolidation is enabling developers to achieve the scale necessary for competitive grid connection and financing. With Alight's Nordic pipeline now surpassing 5GW, the company is well-positioned to serve the region's growing demand for corporate renewable energy procurement.

The global Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Market, valued at USD 174.52 billion in 2022, is forecast to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17.9% through 2030, driven by rising electricity demand, declining technology costs, and supportive government policy frameworks across key markets. As permitting reform and grid investment continue to advance across Scandinavia, transactions such as this acquisition are expected to serve as a template for accelerated solar deployment in markets where land rights and early-stage development work represent significant barriers to entry.
