The Global Alzheimer’s Platform Foundation® (GAP) has announced a strategic collaboration with Spear Bio, a biotechnology innovator specializing in wash-free ultrasensitive immunoassay technology, to support the transformative Bio-Hermes-002 study aimed at improving prediction, detection, and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

A Next-Generation Biomarker Study

Bio-Hermes-002 is a unique, observational platform study that integrates blood-based and digital biomarkers with MRI and PET imaging across diverse cognitive conditions and participant backgrounds. The study collects performance data on individual and combined biomarkers to evaluate their ability to assess, diagnose, or predict pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease, specifically amyloid and tau in the brain.

Under this collaboration, Spear Bio will contribute blood-based biomarker analysis results using its proprietary SPEAR UltraDetect™ assay platform, which offers high sensitivity from minimal diluted sample volumes and a homogenous wash-free format. This technology is designed to expand the capabilities of early-stage diagnostics and longitudinal monitoring within the Bio-Hermes-002 framework, building on insights gained from the prior Bio-Hermes-001 study.

Transforming Biomarker Detection and Data Sharing

John Dwyer, President of GAP, emphasized that Spear Bio’s platform aligns with the foundation’s mission to scale early-stage disease diagnostics and improve clinical trial methodologies for Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Data generated through Bio-Hermes-002 will be securely archived on the AD Workbench, a global, cloud-based data sharing and analytics environment developed by the Alzheimer’s Disease Data Initiative (ADDI) in partnership with Gates Ventures, enabling researchers worldwide to access and analyze the study’s results.

Spear Bio joins an expanding consortium of industry and research partners involved in Bio-Hermes-002, including major biopharmaceutical and diagnostics organizations that collectively contribute blood or digital biomarker assessments.
