ROCHESTER, United States September 21, 2026, Wegmans Food Markets has announced a $110 million investment to transform its supply chain network, anchored by a new refrigerated facility in Rochester, New York, dedicated to fresh produce and perishable operations. The strategic commitment underscores the retail sector's growing emphasis on post-harvest infrastructure, with the global Post-Harvest Treatment Market is projected to reach USD 2.92 billion by 2030, at a CAGR of 6.9%.
The investment, confirmed by Wegmans president and CEO Colleen Wegman, is designed to strengthen the company's supply chain, reduce dependence on third-party logistics providers, and expand capacity to support long-term growth. A central component of the plan is a new refrigerated facility that will support perishable operations spanning fresh produce, meat and seafood, deli, and restaurant foods.
"Modernizing our network is essential to continuing to build a safe, more efficient and more resilient supply chain," said Brian Olney, Senior Vice President of Supply Chain and Food Safety at Wegmans. "These investments will give our people the tools and facilities they need to better serve our stores today while creating the capacity to support Wegmans' continued growth for years to come."
As part of its long-term plan, Wegmans will also consolidate its Winton Road general merchandise distribution center to its Pottsville, Pennsylvania, facility, with the transition expected in spring 2027. The company confirmed that no employee layoffs will result from these changes, and affected employees will be supported throughout the transition.

According to analysts at Next Move Strategy Consulting, the growing emphasis on cold chain infrastructure and post-harvest quality management by major retailers reflects broader market dynamics driving demand for post-harvest treatment solutions. NMSC analysts note that as global food trade expands and food safety regulations tighten, investments in post-harvest infrastructure from refrigerated distribution to advanced treatment technologies such as coatings, sanitizers, fungicides, and ethylene blockers are becoming increasingly critical for maintaining produce quality and reducing spoilage across the supply chain. Such retail-level commitments are expected to generate downstream demand for post-harvest treatment products as operators seek to align storage and distribution capabilities with evolving food safety standards.
Wegmans' $110 million commitment to fresh produce supply chain modernization reflects a broader industry trend toward integrated post-harvest management. As major retailers and distributors invest in cold chain infrastructure, demand for complementary post-harvest treatment products is expected to grow in tandem. The global post-harvest treatment market, projected to reach USD 2.92 billion by 2030 at a CAGR of 6.9%, stands to benefit from such investments as the industry prioritizes food safety, quality preservation, and supply chain resilience. With Asia-Pacific leading market share and North America demonstrating steady growth driven by stringent food safety regulations, the sector is well-positioned for sustained expansion through the end of the decade.
