WeRide Expands ADAS Reach Across Europe via Denmark

WeRide Partners with GreenMobility to Launch Denmark Robotaxi Service, Deepening European ADAS Expansion

BEIJING, China — August 3, 2026 — Chinese autonomous driving technology company WeRide (Nasdaq: WRD) announced on Monday a strategic partnership with Danish electric mobility operator GreenMobility to enter Denmark, extending its European footprint to a sixth country and reinforcing the accelerating global commercialisation of advanced autonomous systems within the ADAS Market, which was valued at USD 20.73 billion in 2021 and is projected to reach USD 74.57 billion by 2030, expanding at a CAGR of 14.2% from 2022 to 2030.

Under the partnership, which remains subject to regulatory approvals, WeRide and GreenMobility plan to launch a public robotaxi service in Denmark in the first half of 2027. The agreement marks a significant step in WeRide's broader European commercialisation strategy, following earlier expansions into Spain and Slovakia in 2026, and existing autonomous driving deployments in France, Belgium, and Switzerland.

Europe has emerged as a primary growth market for China's autonomous driving sector, as companies seek to commercialise their technology beyond their home market amid intensifying domestic competition and regulatory scrutiny. WeRide already operates commercial autonomous driving services in China and the United Arab Emirates, positioning Denmark as its latest international deployment target.

The announcement coincides with a broader wave of Chinese autonomous driving activity across Europe. Rival Pony.ai has partnered with Uber Technologies and Croatian autonomous mobility startup Verne to launch what the companies describe as Europe's first commercial robotaxi service. Baidu's Apollo Go unit and Lyft-owned taxi application Freenow commenced road tests in London in late July, while Momenta has recently secured permits to conduct autonomous driving tests on urban roads across Germany — collectively signalling a structural shift in how advanced driver assistance and autonomous driving technologies are being deployed at scale across the continent.

Key Highlights:

  • Sixth European Market Entry: WeRide's partnership with GreenMobility extends its European autonomous driving footprint to Denmark, adding to existing deployments in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, and Slovakia, and targeting a public robotaxi launch in the first half of 2027.

  • Commercial Precedent from Existing Markets: WeRide's operational track record in China and the UAE provides a commercially validated foundation for its European expansion, distinguishing it from competitors still in early-stage testing phases.

  • Intensifying Chinese AV Competition in Europe: The simultaneous European expansion of WeRide, Pony.ai, Baidu's Apollo Go, and Momenta reflects a coordinated strategic push by Chinese autonomous driving firms to establish early commercial footholds in markets where regulators have progressively opened the door to self-driving vehicle deployment.

  • Regulatory Pathway Advancing: European regulators have gradually expanded testing and deployment permissions for autonomous vehicles, creating a more structured pathway for commercialisation that is expected to accelerate ADAS adoption across passenger and commercial vehicle segments through 2030.

Analyst Insight:

According to analysts at Next Move Strategy Consulting, WeRide's entry into Denmark through a commercial partnership model — rather than a standalone testing programme — represents a more advanced stage of market penetration than most Chinese autonomous driving firms have achieved in Europe to date. NMSC analysts note that the concurrent expansion of multiple Chinese AV developers across European markets is likely to accelerate regulatory harmonisation efforts and increase pressure on incumbent Western ADAS suppliers to accelerate their own Level 3 and Level 4 deployment timelines. With the global ADAS Market projected to grow from USD 20.73 billion in 2021 to USD 74.57 billion by 2030 at a CAGR of 14.2%, the commercialisation of autonomous driving services in new geographies represents one of the most significant near-term demand catalysts for the broader ADAS ecosystem.

Industry Outlook:

WeRide's Denmark partnership with GreenMobility, combined with the parallel European expansion of Pony.ai, Baidu's Apollo Go, and Momenta, signals that the commercialisation of autonomous driving technology in Europe is transitioning from a regulatory experiment to a competitive market reality. As Chinese autonomous driving firms establish operational precedents across multiple European jurisdictions, the pressure on Western OEMs and Tier-1 ADAS suppliers to accelerate their own Level 3 and Level 4 deployment strategies is expected to intensify. The outcome of these early commercial deployments — particularly their safety records, regulatory responses, and consumer adoption rates — will be closely monitored by the global ADAS industry as a leading indicator of the pace at which higher-level autonomous systems will penetrate mainstream vehicle markets through the end of the decade.
