World Robot Conference Drives Physical AI Market Shift

China's World Robot Conference Marks Physical AI Shift from Demonstrations to Industrial Deployment

BEIJING, China  August 19, 2026  More than 300 companies converged on Beijing this week for the 2026 World Robot Conference, showcasing over 2,000 exhibits and launching more than 150 products as Chinese robot makers sought to demonstrate a decisive shift from crowd-pleasing demonstrations to scalable commercial deployment  a development with far-reaching implications for the global Physical AI Market, which is valued at USD 7.89 billion in 2026 and projected to reach USD 119.08 billion by 2035 at a compound annual growth rate of 32.5%.

The conference, which runs through August 23, underscored the accelerating pace at which physical AI systems capable of perceiving, reasoning, and acting in the real world is transitioning from prototype environments into active industrial operations. Humanoid robots were displayed sorting parcels, packing mobile phones on assembly lines, and assisting with household tasks, reflecting a sector-wide push to prove commercial viability at scale.

Investor sentiment reinforced the momentum. Shares in Unitree Robotics (688836.SS), China's best-known humanoid robot maker, soared nearly sixfold in their Shanghai trading debut on August 19, following an initial public offering that was more than 8,000 times oversubscribed by retail investors. Following Unitree's listing, startup Lumos Robotics and the robotics division of Chery Automobile also indicated to Reuters that they were considering stock market listings, signalling a broader wave of capital market activity in the physical AI sector.

The conference also drew international attention. Madison Huang, a senior NVIDIA executive overseeing marketing for the company's Omniverse and robotics platforms software used to simulate and test physical AI systems made an unannounced visit to the event. Her presence highlighted the continued role of foreign technology suppliers in China's robotics development, despite ongoing geopolitical tensions and U.S. export restrictions on advanced AI chips.

Key Highlights:

  • Global humanoid robot shipments nearly quadrupled in the first half of 2026 to approximately 19,100 units, with Chinese manufacturers accounting for the dominant share of that growth

  • Robotera has deployed more than 100 parcel-sorting humanoid robots across 15 warehouses nationwide, including at China Post logistics sites, demonstrating real-world scalability

  • DexForce's humanoid robots capable of millimetre-level operating accuracy have been deployed at a Lens Technology factory, a supplier of touchscreens and components to Apple and Huawei, since early 2026

  • Industry participants noted that product development cycles for robots have compressed to six to eight months, compared with three to four years in traditional industrial equipment sectors, reflecting the rapid pace of physical AI commercialisation

Analyst Insight:

According to analysts at Next Move Strategy Consulting, the 2026 World Robot Conference represents a structural inflection point for the physical AI market, as the industry's centre of gravity shifts from research and demonstration toward revenue-generating deployment across logistics, manufacturing, and service environments. NMSC analysts note that the global Physical AI Market, currently valued at USD 7.89 billion in 2026 and forecast to reach USD 119.08 billion by 2035 at a 32.5% CAGR, is being propelled by precisely the dynamics on display in Beijing namely, the convergence of advanced edge AI processors, sensor fusion technologies, and simulation-driven training platforms that enable machines to operate reliably in unstructured, real-world settings. The near-sixfold surge in Unitree's market debut and the pipeline of planned IPOs from Lumos Robotics and Chery's robotics division further indicate that capital markets are beginning to price in the long-term commercial potential of physical AI at scale.

Industry Outlook:

The 2026 World Robot Conference has reinforced that the physical AI sector is entering a phase of accelerated commercialisation, with Chinese manufacturers currently leading global humanoid robot shipments and international technology providers including NVIDIA maintaining strategic engagement with the market despite geopolitical headwinds.

The compressed product development cycles now characteristic of the robotics industry, combined with surging investor interest and the rapid expansion of real-world deployments across logistics and manufacturing, suggest that the competitive landscape for physical AI will intensify significantly over the near term. As enterprises across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific accelerate their adoption of AI-enabled autonomous systems, the market dynamics demonstrated at the Beijing conference are expected to reverberate across global supply chains, capital markets, and industrial policy frameworks in the months ahead.
