Almond Production โ Almond production refers to the annual output of almonds harvested within a country, measured in tonnes or metric tons. The indicator captures the quantity of almonds produced during a given year and provides a time series of national production levels. It reflects agricultural output from almond orchards intended for commercial, industrial, and agricultural use. Production statistics are compiled from international agricultural databases and official national reporting agencies, providing a standardized measure for comparing almond production across countries and over time.
Beginning in 2019, output declined substantially, falling to 15.554 thousand tonnes, followed by 10.844 thousand tonnes in 2020. Production then remained close to 10 thousand tonnes through 2024, indicating a prolonged period of reduced output. Almond cultivation has traditionally been an important component of Lebanon's horticultural sector, supported by Mediterranean climatic conditions suitable for tree crops. However, production has been affected by a combination of economic challenges, changing agricultural practices, limited investment, and climatic variability. Water availability, orchard maintenance, rising production costs, and labor constraints have also influenced annual output. The persistent decline after 2018 suggests structural challenges affecting the almond industry, including reduced harvested areas and lower productivity in existing orchards. Despite lower production levels, almonds continue to contribute to domestic food markets and traditional agricultural activities. Efforts to improve irrigation efficiency, introduce higher-yielding varieties, and modernize orchard management could help strengthen future production performance. Overall, the decade-long data highlights a significant contraction in Lebanon's almond production, with output declining by approximately two-thirds between 2015 and 2024. Sustained investment in agricultural infrastructure and climate-resilient farming practices will be important to improve productivity and support the long-term sustainability of almond cultivation in the country.
