Almond Production โ Almond production refers to the annual output of almonds harvested within a country, measured in tonnes or metric tons. The indicator captures the quantity of almonds produced during a given year and provides a time series of national production levels. It reflects agricultural output from almond orchards intended for commercial, industrial, and agricultural use. Production statistics are compiled from international agricultural databases and official national reporting agencies, providing a standardized measure for comparing almond production across countries and over time.
Production declined from approximately 146 thousand tonnes in 2015 to around 112 thousand tonnes in 2016, before increasing significantly to over 200 thousand tonnes in 2018, representing the highest output during the decade. Production subsequently declined between 2019 and 2022 before recovering to approximately 132 thousand tonnes in 2024. Iran's diverse climatic conditions support extensive almond cultivation across several provinces, where almonds represent a valuable horticultural crop. Annual production is influenced by rainfall patterns, irrigation availability, drought conditions, spring frosts, and orchard management practices. Water scarcity has become an increasingly important factor affecting agricultural productivity in many producing regions. Despite these challenges, Iran continues to benefit from longstanding expertise in almond cultivation and the widespread adoption of improved production techniques. Almonds play an important role in domestic food consumption, confectionery production, and export markets. Farmers have increasingly invested in better irrigation systems, improved varieties, and more efficient orchard management to maintain yields under changing climatic conditions. Although production has fluctuated considerably over the decade, Iran remains one of the significant almond producers within the region. Overall, the long-term trend demonstrates resilience despite environmental challenges, with gradual recovery evident in recent years. Continued investment in sustainable water management, climate-resilient farming practices, orchard modernization, and improved agricultural technologies is expected to strengthen Iran's almond industry and support more stable production in the future.
