Honey Production โ Honey production refers to the annual quantity of natural honey harvested from managed honeybee colonies through beekeeping activities. It represents the total output of honey collected by beekeepers during a specific period and is used as a macro indicator to assess the scale, productivity, and performance of the apiculture sector. The indicator measures honey production volumes across countries and regions, helping analyze long-term production trends, agricultural contributions, and developments within the global honey industry.
However, production recovered in 2017, reaching 114.47 thousand tonnes, before decreasing again to 107.92 thousand tonnes in 2018. The variation during these years highlights the sensitivity of honey production to seasonal conditions and agricultural factors influencing beekeeping performance.
From 2019 to 2024, Turkeyโs honey production continued to show an uneven pattern with notable changes in annual output. Production increased to 109.33 thousand tonnes in 2019 but declined to 104.08 thousand tonnes in 2020 and further decreased to 96.34 thousand tonnes in 2021, marking the lowest production level during the observed period. However, the sector demonstrated strong recovery in 2022, with production rising to approximately 118.30 thousand tonnes, followed by 114.89 thousand tonnes in 2023. By 2024, production stood at around 95.49 thousand tonnes, indicating continued fluctuations despite Turkeyโs strong production capacity.
Turkeyโs honey industry is supported by favorable geographical conditions, diverse vegetation, and one of the worldโs largest beekeeping communities. The country benefits from rich floral resources, including forests, agricultural areas, and unique nectar sources that support different varieties of honey production. Beekeeping contributes significantly to rural livelihoods, agricultural sustainability, and pollination services across various crop sectors.
From a macro indicator perspective, Turkeyโs honey production reflects a large and established apiculture industry with considerable production potential. Although annual output fluctuated between 2015 and 2024, Turkey maintained a strong position in global honey production due to its extensive beekeeping infrastructure and natural advantages. Future growth opportunities will depend on sustainable hive management, climate adaptation strategies, disease control measures, and modernization of beekeeping practices to improve production stability.
