Honey Production โ Honey production refers to the annual quantity of natural honey harvested from managed honeybee colonies through beekeeping activities. It represents the total output of honey collected by beekeepers during a specific period and is used as a macro indicator to assess the scale, productivity, and performance of the apiculture sector. The indicator measures honey production volumes across countries and regions, helping analyze long-term production trends, agricultural contributions, and developments within the global honey industry.
However, production recovered steadily from 2017 onwards, increasing to 72.21 thousand tonnes and continuing its upward movement in subsequent years. This growth reflects improvements in beekeeping practices, better utilization of natural floral resources, and increasing participation of rural communities in honey production activities.
Between 2018 and 2024, Iranโs honey production maintained a stable growth trajectory. Production increased from 73.29 thousand tonnes in 2018 to 72.42 thousand tonnes in 2019, followed by further growth to 73.95 thousand tonnes in 2020. The sector continued strengthening in the following years, with output reaching 74.62 thousand tonnes in 2021, 76.27 thousand tonnes in 2022, and 78.01 thousand tonnes in 2023. By 2024, Iranโs honey production reached approximately 80.25 thousand tonnes, marking the highest production level during the observed period and demonstrating long-term sector expansion.
Iranโs honey industry benefits from diverse climatic zones, extensive vegetation, and favorable conditions for beekeeping across different regions. The countryโs apiculture sector includes both commercial and small-scale beekeeping operations, contributing to rural employment, agricultural sustainability, and pollination support for various crops. The availability of diverse nectar sources enables the production of different honey varieties, strengthening domestic and export opportunities.
From a macro indicator perspective, Iranโs honey production reflects a steadily developing apiculture industry with strong production fundamentals. The increase from 72.87 thousand tonnes in 2015 to 80.25 thousand tonnes in 2024 indicates improved production capacity and resilience despite environmental and climatic challenges. Future growth of the sector will depend on sustainable hive management, conservation of pollinator resources, adoption of modern technologies, and expansion of value-added honey markets.
