VERNIER, Switzerland September 21, 2026, Givaudan, the global leader in Fragrance & Beauty and Taste & Wellbeing, has secured an industry-first dual certification for its Product Carbon Footprint programme, delivering a landmark sustainability development for the Flavors and Fragrances Market. The programme has been independently certified by TÜV SÜD as compliant with the Together for Sustainability PCF Verification and Programme Certification Framework and aligned with the WBCSD Partnership for Carbon Transparency the first such combined recognition in the flavours and fragrances industry.
The certified PCF programme currently spans more than 90,000 products across Givaudan's portfolio, assessing greenhouse gas emissions from cradle to factory gate using science-based methodologies. The certification reinforces the company's commitment to providing customers with transparent, consistent, and actionable carbon footprint data to support their own emissions reporting and reduction strategies.
The development aligns with Givaudan's broader net-zero ambition, targeting the elimination of GHG emissions across its entire value chain by 2045. The company's net-zero targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative in January 2025, and Givaudan has received seven consecutive CDP A ratings for climate action, with the most recent awarded in January 2026. In May 2026, the company also received a CDP A for supplier climate action. The global Flavors and Fragrances Market is projected to reach USD 43.24 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 4.8% from 2025 to 2030, according to Next Move Strategy Consulting.
Industry First: Givaudan's PCF programme is the first in the flavours and fragrances sector to achieve dual independent recognition under both the TfS PCF Verification and Programme Certification Framework and the WBCSD PACT initiative.
Broad Portfolio Coverage: The certified programme encompasses more than 90,000 products, enabling standardised carbon footprint data exchange aligned with recognised industry methodologies.
Net-Zero Roadmap: The certification supports Givaudan's validated Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) net-zero commitment, with a target year of 2045 across the full value chain.
Sustained Climate Leadership: Givaudan has maintained seven consecutive CDP A ratings for climate action and received a CDP A for supplier climate action in May 2026, underscoring consistent performance in corporate sustainability governance.
According to analysts at Next Move Strategy Consulting, the integration of independently verified carbon transparency frameworks into core product portfolios represents an accelerating trend among leading flavours and fragrances manufacturers. As regulatory pressure around Scope 3 emissions reporting intensifies across the European Union and other major markets, companies that establish credible, third-party-certified PCF programmes at scale are positioned to gain a measurable competitive advantage in customer procurement decisions.
NMSC analysts further note that Givaudan's dual certification covering over 90,000 products sets a new operational benchmark for the sector. With sustainability credentials increasingly influencing supply chain partnerships in the personal care, food and beverage, and home care segments, this development is expected to accelerate the adoption of standardised carbon accounting practices across the broader flavours and fragrances value chain.
Givaudan's achievement of the industry's first dual PCF certification signals a structural shift in how sustainability performance is measured and communicated within the flavours and fragrances sector. As brand owners and contract manufacturers face mounting pressure to disclose product-level emissions data, the availability of standardised, third-party-verified carbon footprint information from key ingredient suppliers will become an increasingly critical factor in procurement and formulation decisions.
The move also reflects the broader trajectory of the global flavours and fragrances industry, where biotechnology integration, regulatory compliance, and sustainability-driven innovation are reshaping competitive dynamics. Companies that embed transparent climate accountability into their supply chain operations are likely to strengthen long-term customer relationships and support the industry's transition toward a lower-carbon production model.
