As advanced materials take center stage in global innovation strategies, Khalifa University has opened the second edition of the Innovative and Industrial 2D and Advanced Materials Summit (I2DM 2025), marking a significant moment for the expanding graphene and 2D materials community. Running from 17–20 November 2025, the event brings together over 300 participants, leading industries, and startups showcasing real-world applications across water systems, clean energy, aerospace, healthcare, and precision manufacturing. Senior representatives from the university, alongside international experts from academia and industry, marked the opening.
Professor Hassan Arafat, Senior Director of RIC2D, highlighted the significance of the gathering, noting that it reinforces the UAE’s growing capacity for advanced materials innovation and its commitment to building an economy enriched by knowledge creation, commercialization, and technology-driven entrepreneurship.
Building on the success of the inaugural event, I2DM 2025 features a plenary session led by Nobel Laureate in Physics (2010) Professor Sir Kostya Novoselov of the National University of Singapore. His session explores how the accelerating evolution of 2D materials could influence next-generation electronics and quantum technologies.
With seven keynote speakers, 38 invited lectures, and a dedicated platform for startup pitching, the summit provides a comprehensive environment where researchers, technology leaders, and emerging ventures can collaborate on advanced materials innovation.
The I2DM exhibition hosts 22 companies representing the full spectrum of advanced materials development—from scientific instrumentation to industrial manufacturing. Exhibitors include Khalifa University spinoff INTRATOMICS, and major names such as Thermo Fisher Scientific, Merck, ESANanotech, Edinburgh Instruments, and the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) in Abu Dhabi.
The startup pitching session, designed and chaired by Dr. Mamoun Taher, convened 20 pioneering companies aiming to translate breakthroughs in materials science into commercially viable technologies. This initiative reinforces Abu Dhabi’s progress as an emerging global hub for advanced technology and cross-border collaboration.
Across the week, I2DM 2025 will continue hosting technical presentations, exhibition engagements, and networking programs to help strengthen industry–academia partnerships. A central focus of the summit is the translation of research outcomes into scalable, impactful solutions that address complex challenges across sectors.
