Almond Production โ Almond production refers to the annual output of almonds harvested within a country, measured in tonnes or metric tons. The indicator captures the quantity of almonds produced during a given year and provides a time series of national production levels. It reflects agricultural output from almond orchards intended for commercial, industrial, and agricultural use. Production statistics are compiled from international agricultural databases and official national reporting agencies, providing a standardized measure for comparing almond production across countries and over time.
Output improved to approximately 801 tonnes in both 2020 and 2022 before moderating again and reaching around 703 tonnes in 2024. These fluctuations primarily reflect changing weather conditions, rainfall variability, and differences in annual orchard productivity. Almond cultivation in North Macedonia is concentrated in warmer regions with favorable Mediterranean climatic influences, where the crop represents a valuable component of diversified fruit production. Production levels are influenced by spring frost, summer drought, water availability, and orchard management practices. Although the country's almond sector remains relatively small compared with larger European producers, gradual improvements in cultivation methods and orchard maintenance have supported relatively stable long-term production. Domestic almonds are primarily supplied to local food markets and food processing industries, with growing consumer interest in healthy nuts supporting continued cultivation. Farmers have increasingly adopted improved planting materials, better irrigation practices, and enhanced disease management to improve productivity despite climatic challenges. Government support for horticultural development and modernization has also contributed to gradual improvements in production efficiency. Overall, almond production in North Macedonia demonstrates moderate year-to-year variability but remains broadly stable over the decade. Continued investment in orchard modernization, efficient irrigation systems, improved varieties, and climate adaptation measures is expected to strengthen production performance while supporting sustainable growth of the country's almond sector over the long term.
