Walnut Production โ Walnut production refers to the total quantity of walnuts harvested and produced from walnut trees within a country or region during a specific year. It measures the agricultural output of walnuts, including commercially cultivated walnut orchards and other agricultural production systems. The indicator represents harvested walnut quantities and is generally measured in tonnes, reflecting the scale, productivity, and growth trends of the walnut industry across different regions.
Between 2015 and 2024, Croatiaโs walnut production experienced significant fluctuations, decreasing from approximately 2,003 tonnes in 2015 to around 300 tonnes in 2024. Production variations were influenced by weather conditions, orchard productivity, seasonal harvest cycles, tree maturity, and changes in cultivated area. The relatively smaller production scale reflects the structure of Croatiaโs walnut industry, which is primarily based on smaller farms and traditional cultivation systems rather than large commercial plantations. The sector includes harvested edible walnuts produced from cultivated walnut trees, supporting food consumption and limited processing activities. Improvements in orchard management, better planting techniques, and adoption of modern agricultural practices have the potential to enhance productivity and stabilize production levels. However, challenges such as climate variability, aging orchards, limited large-scale investment, and competition from major walnut-producing countries continue to influence industry growth. Walnut cultivation contributes to rural agricultural diversification and provides additional income opportunities for farming communities. This macro indicator evaluates Croatiaโs annual walnut production by measuring the quantity of harvested walnuts from agricultural activities. It provides insights into production trends, cultivation performance, and changes within the domestic walnut sector. The indicator includes only primary walnut production and excludes processed products such as roasted walnuts, walnut oil, and packaged walnut-based foods. It also excludes trade activities, consumption data, market value, and non-food uses such as walnut timber production.
