Egg Production โ โ Egg Production refers to the total quantity of eggs produced by poultry within a country during a specified period, measured in tonnes. The indicator reflects the scale of poultry farming, livestock productivity, and the contribution of egg production to the agricultural and food sectors. It is used to assess domestic food production, protein supply, and the performance of the poultry industry. The data presented by Our World in Data is based on statistics from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
Based on the validated data, Vietnam's egg production experienced significant fluctuations during the study period but demonstrated strong long-term growth. Egg production increased from 443.72 thousand tonnes in 2015 to 472.31 thousand tonnes in 2016, before declining sharply to 310.46 thousand tonnes in 2017, representing the lowest production level during the study period. Output recovered to 349.44 thousand tonnes in 2018 and 409.99 thousand tonnes in 2019, before increasing further to 473.66 thousand tonnes in 2020. Production declined to 411.03 thousand tonnes in 2021, followed by a substantial recovery to 592.04 thousand tonnes in 2022 and 643.65 thousand tonnes in 2023. Egg production reached 678.09 thousand tonnes in 2024, representing the highest output recorded during the study period. The overall trend reflects the expansion of Vietnam's poultry industry despite periods of volatility, supported by increasing commercial poultry farming and improvements in production capacity.
The dataset provides valuable insights into Vietnam's egg production trends, poultry farming performance, and agricultural supply chain development. It supports historical trend analysis, production benchmarking, market assessment, and forecasting of future egg supply. Farmers, poultry producers, food manufacturers, retailers, exporters, policymakers, investors, researchers, and industry stakeholders can use the dataset to evaluate production performance, identify growth opportunities, improve production planning, and strengthen supply chain strategies. The data is also valuable for assessing Vietnam's contribution to regional agricultural production, supporting innovation in poultry farming, improving productivity, enhancing food security, and promoting sustainable economic development across the poultry and food processing industries.
